26 West Hartford Residents Run 26.2 Miles in Boston Marathon

The 119th Boston Marathon was run on Monday, April 20, 2015.

There were 26,610 finishers in Monday’s Boston Marathon, and among them were 26 runners from West Hartford who completed the entire 26.2 mile course from Hopkinton to the finish line in Boston. Despite driving rain and a strong headwind, 98 percent of those who started the race completed the marathon.

First among the West Hartford finishers was Shizhong Yang, 33, in 2:48:26.

Kyle Hall, 20, a Conard graduate who currently attends UConn was a close second in 2:48:54, and Ken Whitney, 23, also a Conard graduate who now coaches in West Hartford, rounded out the top three in 2:49:45.

It was a family running event for Mary Ann Lynch and two of her children, Matthew and Elizabeth. [Editor’s note: Yes, Ted Newton is my husband.]

A total of 394 runners were from Connecticut.

Overall, runners came from 57 U.S. states and territories and 79 different countries. There were 50 wheelchair runners, 36 visually-impaired runners, and 11 runners in the 80-plus age group.
