It’s been a long time coming, but Conard fans will finally have a new place to cheer for their favorite teams when the fall 2016 high school sports season gets underway.

Demolition of the rickety old bleachers on the home side of McKee Stadium began this week, and West Hartford Plant and Facilities Director Bob Palmer said the new bleachers should be ready by late August. A new press box is also being built and will be ready for the fall season as well.

The process of installing the new bleachers will take several weeks, and requires the pouring of new cement footers, Palmer said.

The footprint will be the same as the previous bleachers, but will have a slightly smaller capacity, about 700, Palmer said.

The bleachers and the press box will all be ADA compliant, he said.
