Did you know that there are more than 80 languages spoken in West Hartford?  The non-profit organization Hello! West Hartford builds bridges between community members through events and videos that promote the many cultures and languages spoken in town. The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is the local repository for the town’s diverse history and heritage. Together, the two organizations will host their second annual collaborative cultural dinner, Taste of Culture, on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 6 p.m.

“We’re excited to offer this unique cultural dinner again,” said the museum’s Executive Director Jennifer Matos. “West Hartford is fortunate to have such rich cultural diversity. Taste of Culture will allow guests to experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of a few of those cultures within the course of an evening.”

This year’s multi-sensory exploration of West Hartford culture includes cuisine, dance, and music from Peru, India, and Nepal.

The first course will feature appetizers by Cora Cora. The restaurant serves Peruvian favorites and introduces the American palette to unique and delicious flavor combinations. During this course, the Kuskella Peru Dancers will entertain diners.

Course two will feature Indian cuisine from East West Restaurant on Park Road in West Hartford, as well as traditional Indian music and dancing.

Bombay Olive, known for its Nepalese and Persian delicacies, will present the final course – dessert – accompanied by traditional Nepalese dancing.

“We look forward to another great year of Taste of Culture,” said Elizabeth “Bepsie” Perry, the founder and Executive Director of Hello! West Hartford. “The restaurants and performers that support these events not only share their culture but also show their commitment to making our town welcoming.”

Tickets are $50 for the general public and $45 for museum/Hello! West Hartford members. The price includes a three-course meal, two complimentary drinks, and live entertainment. Additional beverages will be available for purchase. A valid ID is required for alcoholic drinks. Reservations are required and available at noahwebster.yapsody.com, or by calling 860-521-5362 ext. 10. Proceeds will support the educational missions of both Hello! West Hartford and the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society.

The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is a not-for-profit museum and cultural destination where citizens can learn to understand and appreciate the past. The museum preserves the birthplace of Noah Webster, the founding father, educator, author and lexicographer who taught generations of Americans what it means to be American. This National Historic Landmark is also a repository for West Hartford’s history, the community that molded Noah Webster’s future and is still thriving over 250 years later. The historic house and exhibit spaces are open daily 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. For information on the museum’s extensive school and public programs, please visit www.noahwebsterhouse.org or call (860) 521-5362.
