[Updated, 5:50 p.m.] An iPad was stolen from a West Hartford home Tuesday morning, and the ‘Find My iPad’ locator pointed police to the suspect.

A Bramley Road homeowner immediately called police when he arrived home just after 10 a.m. Tuesday and found that his West Hartford home had been burglarized, and at the same time he activated “Find My iPad” to determine where the stolen tablet was located.

Police responded, and based on the information provided by “Find My iPad,” located a suspect a short distance away from Bramley Road, at the intersection of South Main Street and New Britain Avenue.

Jeffrey Barnes, 54, of Hartford, was found in possession of the stolen iPad as well as other property that had been taken from a home on Knollwood Rd., police said.

Barnes was taken into custody and charges with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of fifth-degree larceny, and third-degree criminal mischief. He is being held on $100,000 bond, Sgt. Tony Anderle said.

Barnes was also determined to have an outstanding warrant on burglary charges from Windsor Police.

Barnes was previously arrested on burglary charges by West Hartford Police for a Sept. 16, 2016, incident. In that case, a silent alarm at 11 Goodsell St. was activated and a witness gave police a description of a suspicious person – wearing a reflective vest and black pants, and carrying a black bag – walking around the home. Barnes had left the residence by bike but was located by police and arrested.

Barnes has also been charged with burglary and larceny by Wethersfield Police for a November 2016 incident and was released on bail for that case as well as the earlier West Hartford arrest.
