West Hartford Town Council Minority Leader Denise Berard Hall and her family have been spearheading the planting of flags on the graves of veterans in Fairview Cemetery for more than three decades, and will continue the Memorial Day tradition on Saturday, May 27, 2017, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

“We look forward to having as many volunteers as possible as many hands make light work. If you haven’t joined us in previous years, decorating veteran’s graves is a very moving experience,” Hall said.

Anyone is welcome to join. Organizations like boy scout and girl scout trips, as well as other groups, are also encouraged to participate. There is no need to RSVP.

Hall suggests bringing a screwdriver or other tool, as the ground may be hard.

“While many people think of Memorial Day Weekend as the start of summer, spending time at Fairview and reading the grave stones gives us time to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.”

The event will be held rain or shine. Contact Hall at 860-521-7654 with any questions.
