The Town of West Hartford Engineering Division has completed the design plans to reconfigure the Park Road at Interstate 84 (Exit 43) interchange area to improve intersection capacity, efficiency, and safety.

The project involves the relocation of the Interstate 84 off-ramp so it is adjacent to the existing on-ramp, a change that will improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion. The off-ramp will also be re-graded and widened to provide an additional left turn lane, which will increase capacity and improve safety.

During a recent three year period there were almost 60 crashes on the off-ramp.

Park Road will also be widened on the south side to create an additional travel lane and left turn lanes. Pedestrian and bicyclist enhancements will also be incorporated into the project.

Construction is expected to begin in September of 2017. Additional information can be found on the Town of West Hartford website at www.westhartfordct.gov/ParkRd.

The construction costs for the project are estimated to be $6,800,000 with Federal funds providing 80 percent of the costs, and the state and town each providing 10 percent.

The Town of West Hartford will hold a public informational meeting on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at 7 p.m. in Room 314 at the West Hartford Town Hall, 50 South Main St. This meeting will provide an overview of the project and focus on the construction schedule, traffic impacts, and alternative routes.

This will also be an opportunity for the public to ask questions about the project.

Those who are unable to attend the public information meeting are encouraged to email the West Hartford Project Team at [email protected] to obtain more information about the project.

Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend the meeting and requiring an interpreter may make arrangements by contacting the Engineering Division at 860-561-7540 at least five working days prior to the meeting.
