The 3rd annual West Hartford Freedom Run will take place on Sunday, May 21, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m.
Students from West Hartford’s Conard and Northwest Catholic High Schools have banded together to organize this year’s West Hartford Freedom Run which will benefit the veterans’ support organization “Team Red, White, and Blue.”
The West Hartford Freedom Run was started in 2015 by a group of students from Conard High School after junior Connor Swanton, whose uncles served in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, saw a commercial about America’s wounded service members and decided he wanted to do something on a local level to provide support.
The event, an established 501(c)(3) organization, continues to be organized and managed by students who manage the advertising, registration, supply purchasing, obtaining permits, securing safety personnel, and coordination of event-day activities.
This year’s members include the following students from Conard and Northwest Catholic High schools: Abigail Swanton, Matt McCauley, Michaela Mocadlo, Nora Policelli, Chloe Williams, Lilla Bell, Becca Hendsey, Nick Magliochetti, Zander Boehm, and Bridget Murphy.
This 5K fun run/walk is a scenic, flat course that begins at West Hartford Town Hall, winds through local neighborhood streets, and ends back at Town Hall.
All proceeds will go to Team Red, White, and Blue, Inc. (www.teamrwb.org), a national 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their local communities through physical and social activity. The organization’s focus is on three core components – people, health, and purpose – that contribute to life satisfaction and well-being.
The West Hartford Freedom Run is looking for sponsors, donations, volunteers, and runners.
Registration online at www.westhartfordfreedomrun.com or beginning at 9 a.m. at the event. All participants will receive a t-shirt.
