Whether you are a veteran mall shopper or someone who makes an occasional quick trip with a specific purchase in mind, Westfarms management is confident that its new “Westfarms” app can enhance your experience.

The free app, available for iPhone as well as Android platforms, incorporates a map so that shoppers can quickly locate stores, restaurants, the ATM machine, or restrooms as they shop. The app uses GPS functionality, so you can always see exactly where you are.

Even before leaving home, you can click on the “Plan It” tab, enter the stores you want to visit, and the app’s technology will strategically plan your trip, including recommending the closest parking area to each store and an option for the “shortest route.”

Then there’s the “Love It” function. The app can be customized with your favorite stores, and will then provide you with details about sales or other ongoing promotions at those stores. It will also offer suggestions of similar stores, information about offers and events at all stores, and seasonal fashion trends.

“It’s really helpful, even to someone like me who knows the mall like the back of my hand,” Westfarms spokesperson Amanda May Sirica said. You can customize the app with the places you like to shop, and see if your favorite stores are having promotions. “It makes it much easier to plan your route,” she said.

“Today’s shoppers are all about convenience and personalization,” Westfarms General Manager Kevin Keenan said in a news release. “With our new app, we are combining tech-savvy amenities with premium retail offers to provide an unmatched, easy shopping and dining experience during the holidays and all year long.”

“It’s really just about making your shopping experience easier and more personalized,” Sirica said. It will be especially helpful during peak seasons like the holidays and “back-to-school” time when Westfarms is busiest.

“Modern shoppers are all about convenience,” said Sirica. Westfarms has recently added other high-tech conveniences including free WiFi throughout the property, charging stations for portable electronics, and interactive touchscreen directories.

The app was developed exclusively for the Taubman Centers in partnership with Meredith Xcelerated Marketing and SPREO, and according to a news release is the first of its kind in the industry.
