West Hartford Police said that a man robbed an Elmwood convenience store Monday night, reaching over the counter with one hand to grab cash from the register drawer while holding what appeared to be a black pistol in the other hand.

The incident took place at Sam’s Food Store, 1149 New Britain Ave., at 9:33 p.m Monday.

According to police, the suspect was male, either white or Hispanic, and was wearing a blue button down shirt, dark pants, and a dark blue cap.

Police said that the suspect reached over the counter, and after grabbing an undisclosed sum of cash from the register, fled left out of the door of the store and possibly headed south.

A Connecticut State Police K-9 team was brought in to conduct a track, but the suspect was not located.

No one was injured, police said.

Anyone with information should contact police at 860-523-5203.
