Individuals who are conducting an internet sales transaction are welcome to meet in the West Hartford Police Department parking lot to ensure their personal safety.

“It’s on camera, it’s right outside the police station, there are plenty of people around,” West Hartford Police Lt. Ted Stoneburner said.

The parking lot, located on the south side of the police station at 103 Raymond Rd. (on left when facing the building) is under 24-hour surveillance. “If you don’t feel safe because it’s a high dollar transaction, or for any other reason, you are welcome to use the police department’s parking lot,” Stoneburner said. Transactions should be conducted outside, not in the lobby of the station, he added.

Last week a West Hartford woman who had advertised a bicycle for sale on Craigslist was assaulted by a man who came to her home to purchase the item.

“We’ll do anything to keep our citizens safe,” Stoneburner said.
