[Updated] Scooter Collides with SUV on South Main in West Hartford

[Updated: 7:45 p.m.] South Main Street in West Hartford has reopened but police are still investigating a crash that resulted in serious injuries.

West Hartford Police have identified the driver of a motor scooter that lost control on South Main Street earlier Saturday and collided with an SUV as Kyle Barry, 26, of Waterbury. He sustained serious and life-threatening injuries and is under care at St. Francis Hospital. His scooter, a Prescott 50i, had total damage.
The driver of the SUV, a 2015 Toyota Highlander, has been identified as Kevin Farmer, 59, of West Hartford. He was not injured and his vehicle had minor damage to the driver’s side, police said.
South Main Street has been reopened but the accident remains under investigation by West Hartford Police.

The driver of a motor scooter lost control and collided with an SUV on South Main Street in West Hartford just after noon on Saturday, police said.
According to Capt. Jeff Rose, the driver of the scooter, a 26-year-old man, was heading north on South Main Street when he lost control, crossed the double yellow line, and collided with a Toyota Highlander that was heading southbound.
The driver of the scooter was taken to Saint Francis Hospital with what police called “serious and and life-threatening” injuries.
The driver and sole occupant of the Highlander was not injured.
The incident happened at 12:08 p.m., just north of the intersection of South Main Street and Meadowbrook Road, in front of the entrance to the Northbrook apartment building.
South Main Street from Boulevard to Park Road remains closed while the accident reconstruction team is on the scene.
Neither party was identified by police.
The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been made.
