There were no injuries and damage was contained to the exterior of a three-story apartment building on Albany Avenue in Bishops Corner on Saturday night, West Hartford Deputy Fire Chief Russell Duffy said.

According to Duffy, the fire was first reported at approximately 8:57 on Saturday, May 17 by someone who said that from across the street they had seen flames coming from a third-story window.

When the first unit arrived, at 8:59 p.m., they found an active fire on a third floor balcony.

All West Hartford units assisted at the scene, along with the UConn Fire Department, and the blaze was quickly extinguished with the fire declared under control by 9:13 p.m.

Duffy said that “due to the rapid and coordinated response,” damage was to the exterior of the building only. There were no injuries reported, and no residents were displaced as a result of the incident, Duffy said, and were able to safely return Saturday night.

The West Hartford Fire Department is thankful to its mutual aid partners. In addition to UConn helping at the scene, the New Britain and Newington fire departments, along with AMR, provided coverage for the town while units were committed. They also expressed thanks to the “West Hartford Police Department, Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG), the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC), and Eversource for their support and collaboration during the incident.”
