On Friday morning, the entire first grade at Bugbee Elementary School celebrated the legend of “Johnny Appleseed” – an early conservationist who was known for randomly planting apple trees as he traveled throughout the country. John Chapman, who became known as “Johnny Appleseed,” was born on Sept. 26, 1774.

According to Bugbee parent Shana Waxman, the first graders at Bugbee had a fun morning apple tasting, planting seeds, making bookmarks, making bead bracelets, and measuring apple peels.

“A highlight was a visit  from ‘Johnny’ himself who was roaming the Bugbee woods and stopped by to say hello,” Waxman said.

The Bugbee community would like to thank Whole Foods Market for donating 200 apples to the event.
