Brush up your Shakespeare with the 8-week Capital Classics’ popular ‘Shakespeare Book Club’ discussion series at the Noah Webster Library in West Hartford.

The Capital Classics Theatre Company returns to the Noah Webster Public Library in West Hartford for the fourth “semester” of its popular Shakespeare Book Club. Join a passionate group of Shakespeare fans – of all ages – for eight months of group discussions of Shakespeare’s earliest works.

Whether it’s your first Shakespeare play or you’ve been a fan of the Bard your whole life, the Book Club discussions are free of charge and open to Shakespeare fans of all ages. Sessions are held in the Library Meeting Room of the Noah Webster Library, 20 South Main Street in West Hartford, at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.

Shakespeare Book Club discussions focus on history; literary elements, such as story, theme and character; and theatrical staging ideas inspired by the texts. Discussions are moderated by Geoffrey Sheehan, Capital Classics artistic associate and theatre professor at Housatonic Community College.

The dates and plays of the 2017–2018 Shakespeare Book Club are:

  • Monday, Oct, 2: The Taming of the Shrew
  • Monday, Nov. 6: The Two Gentlemen of Verona
  • Monday, Dec. 4: Titus Andronicus
  • Monday, Feb. 5: The Comedy of Errors
  • Monday, March 5: King John
  • Monday, April 2: The Merchant of Venice
  • Monday, May 7: Troilus and Cressida
  • Monday, June 4: Play title of our 2018 Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival

Parking at the Isham Garage in Blue Back Square will be validated, and you can even bring your own beverage and snack to the meeting room.
