The Children’s Museum in West Hartford will celebrate National Astronomy Day on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Families and children will have the opportunity to see and touch moon rocks as well as meteorites and other lunar samples. The day will be filled with special activities and programs that bring astronomy to even the youngest astronomers.

This year’s theme is “Over the Moon.” Visitors will get a chance to explore the Moon through moon-related planetarium shows, hands-on activities, and a live tour of the night sky that includes information about the upcoming August eclipse where the Moon passes in front of the Sun.

The highlight of the day is a special program in the planetarium at 11:30 a.m. called “Moon Rocks Live!” During this program visitors will learn about the Moon from CREC Discovery Academy students and have the opportunity to touch a national treasure; real rocks brought back from astronauts who visited the Moon!

With the exception of planetarium shows, all Astronomy Day activities are included with general admission on Astronomy Day.

Museum hours on Astronomy Day are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission to The Children’s Museum is $14.75 for adults, $13.75 for seniors (63+), $13.75 for children (2-12) and free for children under age 2.
