Community Dancers Invited to Audition for Ballet Theatre Company’s ‘The Nutcracker’

Open auditions for Ballet Theatre Company’s (BTC) The Nutcracker will take place Sunday, Sept. 17, at BTC’s facility located at 20 Jefferson Avenue, West Hartford.

Community dancers ages 7+ are eligible to audition for a variety of roles in Stephanie Dattellas’ “The Nutcracker.” Dancers currently enrolled in the School of Ballet Theatre Company (SBTC) are asked to register for the audition time slot that corresponds with their current level placement for the 2023-2024 school year. Dancers joining from other dance schools should register for the time slot that corresponds with their age at the time of the audition.

All interested dancers and their families are strongly encouraged to review the Production Overview and full details at www.dancebtc.org/audition-the-nutcracker prior to the audition and contact BTC’s Artistic Staff at [email protected] with any questions.

The schedule for the audition is as follows:

  • 10-10:30 a.m. ~ SBTC Primary Ballet I – OR – community dancers age 7
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m. ~ SBTC Primary Ballet II & Ballet I – OR – community dancers age 8-9
  • 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. ~ SBTC Ballet II – OR – community dancers age 10
  • noon-1:30 p.m. ~ SBTC Ballet III – OR – community dancers age 11
  • 12:45-2 p.m. ~ SBTC Ballet IV – OR – community dancers ages 12-13
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. ~ SBTC Ballet V & VI – OR – community dancers ages 14+
  • 2:30-3 p.m. ~ Clara Callback

Please note that dancers may be asked to stay longer or be released earlier than the schedule predicts depending on the needs of the artistic staff.

BTC is thrilled to return to the Bushnell’s Maxwell M. & Ruth R. Belding Theater with Artistic Director Stephanie Dattellas’ cheeky adaptation of “The Nutcracker” with performances Dec. 1-3, 2023. The company will present five public performances including one sensory-friendly performance, A Sensory-Friendly Ballet. Additionally, an abbreviated performance, A Children’s Ballet, will be presented on Dec. 1, 2023 with tickets offered to local school students, including those served by Hartford Performs.

Student dancers involved in BTC’s “The Nutcracker “will also be offered the unique opportunity to work alongside BTC’s company of professional dancers throughout the rehearsal process, and international guest artists further elevating this experience for young dancers of all ages!
