Another CCC West champion-deciding swim and dive meet is set for Wednesday Oct. 23 at Cornerstone Aquatics Center between the Conard Red Wolves and the Hall Titans.

This will be the 51st meeting between the two West Hartford teams. Conard currently leads the series 25-22-3.

Between Conard and Hall, the CCC West title has been held in West Hartford since 2009. During that stretch, Hall has won the title nine times, Conard four, and they shared it in 2022 (in 2020, there was no division title to be won). Conard won the title in 2023.

Currently, Conard sits at 6-0 overall, 3-0 in CCC West meets, while Hall’s record is 7-1, 3-0 in CCC West meets. Both teams have beaten CCC West opponents, Farmington, Southington, and Newington.

Conard is led on the board by seniors Gabrielle Alekshun (captain) and Mia Rosario, and newcomer Sanai Belabe. In the swimming events, senior captains Rachel Mathews, Echo Jo, and Maddie Mancini lead a strong junior and sophomore group of swimmers:  Gracie and Kayla Lowney, Lyla Harhay, Claire Haverly, Ella Hall, Cecelia Peck, Rosie Alonzo, Lucy Pincince, Celia Filotto and Lilah Krajc. Conard has also gotten several key points in their meets from freshmen Ellie Harhay and Edie Kitzman.

Hall is led by senior captains Miriam Youel, Mindy Zhao, Ziggy Edney, and Lexi Dominguez. Jessica Virkerman and Fiona Powers round out the senior scorers for Hall. The seniors are backed up by juniors Claire Nordquist, Claire Culmo, Hannah Fink, and Sophia Adelman, along with freshmen Ann-Yee Lim and Bianca Cocco. Hall’s dive team is comprised of junior Kate Hynes and freshmen Julia Arias and Sadie Eppinger.

This meet will wrap up the regular season for both teams. Their postseason run will begin with the CCC West meet (not used to determine the CCC West winner), then the Class L swim trials (at Cornerstone), Class L swim finals (at Wesleyan) and the State Open swimming (at Yale). The state diving for both Class L and the State Open will be held at Middletown High School.

Both teams have strong All-State prospects. These honors are based on performance at the Class finals and State Opens.
