Conard High School held its first home game of the season against Shelton High School Friday night with students – who filled the stands – wearing black to support Conard’s “Black Out” theme.

Spirits were high as the anthem began to play and the students, decked out in all black, began to sing along. Excitement buzzed through the air as people tried to predict the outcome of the game.

The game began with a bang – but not for Conard – as Shelton got on the board first with a touchdown and extra point. Another score and kick for Shelton and Conard was down 14-0.

Conard quickly struck back with a touchdown from quarterback Brady Cersosimo – and there were plenty of cheers and flag waving from the exuberant Conard student section.

But Shelton was determined not to let the Conard take over their winning streak, continuously gaining more and more points,  especially during quarter two and three, when the score quickly changed from 14-7, to 24-7, to 31-7 before Conard was able to score again.

The Red Wolves seemed discouraged and the student section was quiet, but the Conard football team did not give up.

Conard found the end zone again and converted the kick, giving them 14 points, but once again, Shelton wouldn’t let this battle last long, and soon the score was 41-14.

Though things didn’t look too good for Conard, the team fought back as Jameson Lamoreux scored a touchdown, increasing the Red Wolves’ points from 14 to 21 nearing the end of the fourth quarter.

The game ended with Shelton winning, 41-21.

Though Conard didn’t win their first home game, they turned up their offense in the second half and hope to keep momentum heading into next week when they travel to Bristol Central.
