Conard Girls Swim and Dive Now 4-0

The Conard Girls Swim and Dive team moved to 4-0 on the season with an 97-87 win over Glastonbury on Tuesday.

Conard got off to a quick 10-4 lead as the teams of Gracie Lowney, Ella Hall, Claire Haverly, and Laura Haverly, along with Emilie O’Sullivan, Rosie Alonzo, Celia Filotto, and Cecelia Peck grabbed first and third in the 200 medley relay. In the 200 Freestyle, Conard’s Kayla Lowney (second) and Lucy Pincince (third) were beaten by Glastonbury’s Rachel Hassett.

G Lowney and Ellie Harhay then teamed up in the 200 Individual Medley for a first and third finish, making the score Conard 26-20 right before Conard opened the lead to 12 points as L Haverly, Lyla Harhay, and Peck finished 1-3-4.

While both Conard divers, Sanai Belabe and Charlotte Willard both had personal bests in diving, it was not enough as Glastonbury placed 1-2-4, cutting the Conard lead to just 4 points, 41-37.

Glastonbury then cut the lead to 2 points in the 100 butterfly as Hassett notched her second win of the day, ahead of second place finishers, C Haverly and E Harhay.

That would be Glastonbury’s last win of the day as the Red Wolves went 1-2-4 in the 100 freestyle (L Harhay, L Haverly, and Pincince), followed by a 1-4-5 finish in the 500 freestyle (K Lowney, E Harhay, and Ciara Frewen).  The score moved to a 69-57 advantage for Conard before the 200 Freestyle relay where Conard notched its second relay finish of 1-3 as L Haverly, Peck, L Harhay, and G Lowney touched first with teammates Pincince, Filotto, Frewen and K Lowney finishing third.

Alonzo and O’Sullivan teamed up for a 1-3 finish in the backstroke while Hall and C Haverly grabbed 1-3 in the breaststroke, sealing the victory for Conard before the 400 freestyle.

In the last event, Conard again went 1-3 with L Harhay, G Lowney, Pincince, and Alonzo taking first and E Harhay, K Lowney, Frewen, and C Haverly grabbing third.

Alonzo got her state cut in the backstroke and Edie Kitzman got her state cut in the butterfly.

Conard is off until Friday when it will travels to Newington for its first CCC West meet of the season.

On Saturday, both local teams, Conard and Hall will be hosting 8 other teams from across the CCC and other conferences in West Hartford as they swim an Invite with Farmington, Glastonbury, Plainville, Amity, Daniel Hand, Woodland Regional, New Canaan, and Greenwich.
