On Wednesday evening, Oct. 28 at Cornerstone Pool, the Conard Girls Swim & Dive team defended its CCC West title by defeating Hall by a score of 98-79.

Conard opened the meet with their best time of the season (1:54.56) in the 200 medley relay (Clara Capone, Bridget Williams, Annie Kirklin, Maria Armillei). The time was just 1.21 seconds off the school record.

Conard then swept the 200 freestyle with Emma Dowd, Lauren Manning and Tatiana St. Juste placing 1-2-3.

In the 200 IM, Tara Tiernan got Hall a first place finish, but Conard quickly pressed the margin up by going 1-2-4 in the 50 freestyle (Capone, Armillei and Kylie Bell).

The Conard divers kept the momentum for the Chieftans as they swept the diving event (Libby McMahon, Kirsten Bednarz and Kiley Phelan).

With the score now 58-19, the second half of the meet opened with a close finish in the butterfly as Conard’s Libby Phillips out touched Kelley Tiernan. The Conard trio of Capone, Armillei and Kyla Barry swept the 100 freestyle, pushing the lead to 81-28.

In the 500 free, Tara Tiernan picked up a second win of the evening, and Dowd placed second.

Conard put the score out of reach for Hall in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Marisa Haverty, Armillei, Dowd and Capone cruised in with a time of 1:44.38. Conard freshman Lauren Manning teamed up with St Juste for a 1-2 finish in the backstroke, while Hall freshman Emily LaSpada out touched Conard’s Bridget Williams in the 100 breaststroke.

Hall closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (Jeanne Wang, Grace Coll, Alissa Palmer and Tiernan).

Conard moved on to the Viking Invite on Saturday facing CCC East champion Wethersfield, along with East Lyme and Daniel Hand. Both Conard and Hall will compete this week in the CCC West divisional meet at Cornerstone as their last competition before the Class LL State tournament.
