West Hartford Public Schools has announced that the Connecticut Association of Schools has recognized Conard High School with its top honor – CAS High School of the Year.
In a letter to the Conard community on Monday, Principal Jocelyn Tamborello-Noble said the recognition is a reflection of the “heart” of the entire school community.
“This award celebrates the collective efforts of our students, staff, families, and community partners, who work each day to create a school environment rooted in belonging and excellence,” Tamborello-Noble said. “It recognizes not only our academic achievements but also our commitment to supporting the whole child, fostering meaningful connections and ensuring that every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed, honoring every path after graduation.”
She said that an “unwavering belief in students” is the heart of Conard, not just among those who are part of the current community but also as a legacy among past students, teachers, and staff. “Together, we build upon that mission each day; one rooted in belonging, connection, and a deep commitment to every student who enters our doors,” Tamborello-Noble said.
West Hartford Superintendent Paul Vicinus said Monday that excellence across a broad range of rigorous standards and best practices must be demonstrated before a school can even be considered as a nominee for the award. The process includes a review of “school safety and wellness, comprehensive academic and intervention supports, robust extracurricular opportunities, high-quality instructional practices, personalized learning environments, and a research-based curriculum that promotes high expectations for all learners,” he said.
Tamborello-Noble expressed her thanks and gratitude to all who have contributed to making Conard a special place deserving of the CAS’ top honor – including teachers, counselors, special educators, service providers, librarians, para-educators, teaching assistants, security officers, cafeteria workers, custodians, and administrators.
“I am grateful for your partnership and commitment to making a difference in our students’ lives, strengthening our community, and fostering hope for a brighter future,” Tamborello-Noble said in her message.
“This recognition is a tremendous honor,” Vicinus said. “Being nominated and competing at this level is an achievement in itself; earning the distinction of the CAS High School of the Year is a testament to the tireless efforts of Conard’s educators, support staff, and the entire school community.”
Vicinus congratulated Tamborello-Noble and the entire Conard team, and added that earning the honor “reflects our district’s unwavering commitment to ‘Every Child, Every Day.’ Conard’s success is built upon the strong foundation established across our middle and elementary schools, ensuring that students are prepared to succeed and thrive throughout their educational journey and beyond.”
