Connecticut Leaders Sound Alarm On LIHEAP Firings

Lawmakers and advocacy leaders gathered Wednesday to condemn the Trump Administration’s sudden firing of all federal employees responsible for administering the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a move they fear could leave thousands of vulnerable residents without essential heating assistance.
Speaking at the press conference, state Sen. Matt Lesser, D-Middletown, co-chair of the Human Services Committee, called the firings “shocking” and warned of the potential devastation they could bring to Connecticut’s low-income households.
