More than a dozen new laws will take effect Jan. 1 in Connecticut, including changes to absentee ballots, mandatory paid sick leave, and expanded protections for home health care workers.

In an effort to prevent potential voter fraud via absentee ballot, all applications for absentee ballots starting Jan. 1 will be printed with specific years on them, under Public Act 24-148. Town clerks will be banned from providing or accepting ballots without the applicable year on them.

Here are more details about the laws that may impact residents in the new year.
