One spectator at a travel basketball that took place at Hall High School in West Hartford was arrested Sunday evening for lashing out another spectator who was filming a confrontation.

West Hartford Police Capt. Michael Perruccio said Wednesday that during an eighth grade travel basketball game at Hall High School, between the West Hartford and East Hartford teams, some spectators became belligerent after disagreeing with a foul call made by a game official.

A female spectator was recording a confrontation between other spectators and the referee, which was taking place at 6:15 p.m., as the game had ended and people were leaving the gym, when another female spectator “became agitated about the filming,” Perruccio said.

Marcelie Ramos, 20, of Madison Avenue in Hartford, approached the woman who was recording the confrontation, swung at her forcefully, swatting at the phone in her hands, police said.

There were no injuries to either of the women, police said.

Ramos was charged with second-degree breach of peace. She was released on $2,500 non-surety bond is due to appear in Community Court on Wednesday.

The referee whose foul call led to the confrontation told police that a male spectator had also threatened him about a call made during the game. According to police, the referee said that the male spectator had tried to physically assault him on the court.

Perruccio said that the incident is still under investigation.

Police have not released the cellphone video.
