Granger, who has lived in West Hartford since being rescued by Ashley Hanse three years ago, is in the quarterfinals of the competition and looking for more votes.

Granger’s owner knows that he would be the purr-fect choice as “America’s Favorite Cat” – an honor which comes with a magazine cover appearance – and Ashley Hanse is hoping the West Hartford community will help by voting for him.
Hanse is a high school English teacher, who said she and her family have lived in West Hartford “for 28 years and would never want to live anywhere else!” And Granger has lived here nearly the whole three years of his life.
“Granger was adopted as a kitten through the local rescue ‘Animal Friends of Connecticut,'” said Hanse in an email. “He is truly the Golden Retriever of cats, and the sweetest little orange man in the world. He loves greeting his humans at the door, snuggling like a teddy bear, playing fetch with hair ties and fresh green beans, giving paw, and proudly wearing his bow tie collars every day like a dapper little gentleman!”

The contest also serves as a fundraiser. The first vote is free (and you can vote once a day through Facebook), and any donation votes support the nonprofit PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society).
The competition ends on March 12, and the winning kitty gets a feature story, and will be on the cover of “Modern Cat” magazine.
