When it comes to the state Department of Transportation’s wrong-way alert detection system – officials say there is good and bad news.

“The good news is the system is stopping them [drivers] from getting on the highway in the wrong direction,” said Josh Morgan, DOT’s communications director. “The bad news is that it’s happening far too frequently. Just over this holiday weekend, there were seven incidents.”

One of those seven occurred on Sunday. State Police from Troop H in Hartford arrested a Hartford man after they received a 911 caller shortly before 2:30 a.m. who reported a driver heading east on the westbound side of Route 72 in Plainville.
