The state Department of Social Services apologized Monday for data issues that delayed the distribution of a new Summer food benefit and said that the agency had been able to decrease the delay by three weeks.

“We know many people have questions about the delay, about why Summer EBT was delayed. First of all, we want to apologize for that,” DSS Deputy Communications Director Christine Stuart said. “We should have done a much better job of communicating about what was happening internally when we missed some deadlines, and we should have let people know about that. So what we’ve done is we’ve put a process in place and safeguards in place to ensure that both the process and the communications happen more timely.”
