Exhibits will open Sunday at both the West Hartford Art League’s Saltbox and Clubhouse galleries.
Extraordinary features work by artists Eric Hedberg, Peggy Dembicer, Brian Walters and Diane Olean Bannon and will be on exhibit in the Saltbox gallery. Extraordinary highlights work by these artists that focuses on using ordinary, found materials to create artwork that is anything but.
Diane Olean Bannon is a Connecticut based artist specializing in cork sculpture. Diane’s academic background in art inspired her first piece, a classic female nude named Emma. From this first endeavor, she found herself intrigued with the distinct personality that develops as each piece evolves. Brian Walters is a self-taught sculptor who works primarily with salvaged materials. Brian unique outlook on his materials “every bit and piece that I collect in my journeys throughout Connecticut has a story to tell. From a flywheel out of a Chevy truck to a piece of rebar that once held a sidewalk together” helps him create one of a kind sculptures. Peggy Dembicer is a mixed media artist who uses her background in textile and fiber arts to present a modern take on traditional techniques. Her recent weavings incorporate recycled materials and found objects. Eric Hedberg is a mixed media who creates boxed assemblages from found objects.
Extraordinary will open with a reception Sunday, Feb. 22, from 2-4 p.m. in the Saltbox Gallery. It is free and open to the public. www.westhartfordart.org

This is the third fiber exhibit produced by the Art League in an effort to showcase the diversity of contemporary fiber works by local artists. Contemporary quilts, weaving, felting and basketry are all included in the exhibit.
Both exhibits will be on display through Sunday, March 1. The West Hartford Art League, founded in 1934, is located at 37 Buena Vista Road.
