West Hartford Town Engineer Greg Sommer has announced that the third and final round of roadway resurfacing for 2023 is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 10.
The following roads are scheduled for repaving in the third round:
- New Park Avenue (Prospect Avenue to West Hartford Place driveway)
- Quaker Lane South (Talcott Road to Flatbush Avenue)
- Reed Avenue
- Talcott Road (New Park Avenue to Grassmere Avenue)
- Tolles Street
- Vanderbilt Avenue
According to Sommer, the process includes about a week of milling and two weeks to complete the paving for each roadway project.
“Due to the high traffic volumes, truck traffic, and businesses in this area, this work will be performed at night in an effort to improve safety and minimize impacts to the public and businesses,” Sommer said in an email. “The only exception is Quaker Lane South which will be resurfaced during normal daytime hours.”
Sommer said that signed detours and/or road closures will be needed for New Park Avenue, Quaker Lane South, and Talcott Road.
“Expect delays and detours during active work hours and seek alternate routes if possible. Police officers and flaggers will help with traffic control. Motorists are reminded to use caution while traveling on the milled surface and be alert for raised manhole structures,” he said.
Sommer said that bike lanes will be added to Quaker Lane South, in accordance with the town’s Complete Streets Policy.
