All residents of a single-family ranch home on Fernbel Lane were able to self-evacuate and there were no injuries due to a fire that broke out Sunday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief John Sokolowski said West Hartford Public Safety Dispatch received multiple calls about a fire on Fernbel Lane at approximately 8:35 a.m. Sunday, indicating the blaze was on the exterior of the single-family home.

When units arrived, they reported a large volume of fire on the exterior of the ranch home, and additional resources also responded to the scene.

The homeowner confirmed to fire officials that all occupants had self-evacuated, and there were no injuries to either residents or firefighters, Sokolowski confirmed.

West Hartford firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior fire using an attack line, while other crews checked for extension into the interior of the home. Some minor damage was found where the fire had extended into bathroom and the attic, Sokolowski said.

The fire was declared under control by 9:04 a.m. and the cause is under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office. According to Sokolowski, a representative from the West Hartford Building Official’s Office said the home was able to be re-occupied by the residents.

Mutual aid covering the town was provided by fire departments from UConn, New Britain, and Newington while West Hartford units were committed to the scene. The West Hartford Fire Department thanked those organizations, as well as West Hartford Police and AMR for their assistance.
