A West Hartford Center building sustained minor damage Tuesday from a fire that started on the roof, officials said.
Battalion Chief Kevin Munson said that the West Fire Department received a call reporting fire and smoke on the roof of 977 Farmington Ave. Tuesday at 2:43 p.m.
Workers had been on the roof of the building, which houses Grant’s Restaurant and Bar, Cookshop Plus, and offices, and had started a small fire that spread into the structure of the roof, Munson said. “Crews needed to peel back the layers of the roof to get to the fire,” he said.
The building was evacuated for about an hour while the fire was brought under control and the premises was ventilated, Munson said. Farmington Avenue was closed to traffic between Main Street and LaSalle Road.
The fire was handled by the 20 members of the West Hartford Fire Department who were on duty at the time, he said.
There were no reported injuries.
