West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District urges residents: Winterize! Immunize! Get Your Flu Shot!
Submitted by the Town of West Hartford
Each year about 114,000 people in the United States are hospitalized because of the flu. Are you protected? The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District will hold three public flu immunization clinics: Oct. 28, 29 and Nov. 20.
The Center for Disease Control states, “Annual vaccination against influenza is the primary means for minimizing serious adverse outcomes from influenza virus infections. People in high-risk groups such as those with chronic disease of the heart, lung, kidneys, diabetes, and those with immuno-suppression should also get a flu shot.” If you live with anyone in the high-risk groups, you should also get the flu shot. If you are unsure whether or not you are at risk, contact your physician.
The fee for the flu vaccine is $30. Insurance pays for those with Medicare Part B, ConnectiCare/Medicare Product, CIGNA, Aetna, all Anthem clients age 18 and older.
All clinics are walk-in, no appointments necessary.
