The Town of West Hartford started the project of modernizing the elevators and escalators in the Blue Back Square garages in December 2025.

The Town of West Hartford continues to make steady progress on the elevator and escalator modernization project in the Memorial and Isham garages.

This multi-year initiative (which began in December 2025) is designed to improve the reliability, safety, accessibility, and long-term performance of the elevators and escalators serving our parking garages and pedestrian areas.

Modernization of the Isham Garage elevator is currently underway and progressing on schedule.

The estimated completion is May 2026. While this work is taking place, the garage will remain open to the public.

To support accessibility during this period:

• Two ADA parking spaces have been designated on Level 2.
• Signage has been installed on each garage level and at the primary pedestrian entrances and exits.
• Signage directs patrons to available stairs and escalators as alternate access routes.

Parking staff will continue to monitor the facility and assist patrons as needed throughout the modernization period.

Modernization of the lower level and first floor escalators in the Memorial Garage is also proceeding as scheduled.

The estimated completion is July 2026. Work areas surrounding the escalators have been secured with barricades, and directional signage has been installed to guide patrons to 65 Memorial Road and alternate pedestrian routes.

To support visitors and nearby healthcare offices during construction:

• Thirteen Level 1 spaces remain reserved for patient parking on the ground floor.
• The ADA drop-off and pick-up area on Memorial Road remains expanded with two additional spaces.

Once this phase is complete, modernization will continue with the escalators serving Levels 2 and 3.
