What word says the holidays better than “gingerbread”?

Kids, teens, adults, and families are invited to take part in one of America’s oldest traditions at gingerbread decorating workshops on Dec. 7 and 8 at the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society.

On Dec. 7, the museum will host its classic gingerbread house making. On Dec. 8, the museum will offer something new: a sneak peek performance of The Nutcracker by Ballet Theatre Company.

The aroma of gingerbread (thanks to ingredients like molasses, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, and cloves) will greet you on Friday, Dec. 7 atGingerbread House Night. This event is for adults and teens only. Get crafty with colorful candies and icings and decorate your gingerbread house masterpiece, made from homemade gingerbread. Guests may bring their own light snacks and drinks to enjoy while decorating.

New this year! Experience the magic of The Nutcracker at Gingerbread Day: Cookies with the Dew Drop Fairy on Dec. 8. The museum is excited to partner with Ballet Theatre Company to bring you an experience you and your child will not forget.

The Nutcracker’s Dew Drop Fairy will greet children and gather them for a story time. Then, dancers from Ballet Theatre Company will perform a sneak peek of the company’s 2018 production ofThe Nutcracker, performing three scenes right in our museum, including Mother Ginger and her gingerbread babies! Children will decorate their own gingerbread boy and girl cookies to take home. After, there will be a meet and greet with the Dew Drop Fairy and the other ballerinas. Dress up is encouraged for your photo opportunity with the dancers!

Gingerbread House Night is Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, $18 for members.

Gingerbread Day, Cookies with Mother Ginger is Saturday, Dec. 8. Three sessions will be offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Tickets are $18, $16 for members. This is not a drop off event; parents stay with their children.

Visit www.noahwebster.yapsody.com for more information and to register. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. A limited number of to-go gingerbread house kits will be available for pick up on Saturday, Dec. 8. These must be preordered.
