Hall/Conard girls hockey ended their 12-game winning streak with a 4-1 loss against Suffield this week.

Period one started off strong, with Hall/Conard maintaining possession of the puck for the first few minutes of the game. Hall/Conard began to lose momentum when Lila Prayzner, a forward for Suffield, scored the first goal of the game.

Gaining confidence from getting points on the board, the Wildcats started to hold possession for longer and secure more shots on goal. Devon Root-Blanchfield secured the second goal for Suffield, amid debates on the sideline of whether the goalie was hit or not. Despite this, the goal counted, and the Wildcats pushed their lead to 2-0.

Despite Hall/Conard’s defensive efforts, Suffield managed to secure one more goal in the first period as Madeline Croyle sank the puck into the back of the net. With just 2:58 left in period one and the West Hartford team down by 3, Hall/Conard’s head coach Jared Cohane called a timeout.

Coming out of the timeout, Hall/Conard managed to improve their offensive efforts. Fiona Campbell had a breakaway and shot, but with no luck. The first period ended with the Wildcats in the lead by 3-0.

Hall/Conard came into period two with new energy, with junior Paige Sweeney scoring the first goal for Hall/Conard, assisted by senior Claire Reidel, just three minutes into the second period.

The rest of the second period remained competitive, with both teams securing multiple shots on net, but none of them had success. Teagan Cohane almost scored with just a few seconds left, but the second period came to an end without another goal for Hall/Conard. Going into the last period, the score was 3-1, with Suffield maintaining the lead.

Hall/Conard was looking to even up the game in the third period, which was displayed with their energy. But 2:50 into the second period, Riley Shove of Suffield managed to tap the puck in the back of the net, slightly deflected off the skate of a Hall/Conard player.

The game started getting more aggressive, with Hall/Conard having two girls sent to the penalty box. Hall/Conard got a few shots off towards the end of the game, though none made it in the net.

The third period came to an end with the Wildcats (11-6) taking the win, with the final score being 4-1.

Hall/Conard girls hockey (12-3) will be taking a road trip on Monday down to Stamford to play Stamford/Westhill/Staples (5-6). The girls are hoping to make a comeback after their streak-shattering loss this week.
