Hall High School Students Earn Prestigious Writing Awards

Three students from William H. Hall High School in West Hartford have been recognized in the Scholastic Writing Awards competition.

Three students from William H. Hall High School have garnered recognition in the 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards; they are junior Saomai Nguyen, sophomore Sarah Lewis and freshman Nina Faynshtayn. Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious educational initiative supporting student achievement in the visual and literary arts.

Saomai Nguyen received a silver key for her critical essay titled “Why Can’t I Say ‘You.’” Sarah Lewis received two silver key awards, one for her poem titled “Alma Martyr” and one for her flash fiction piece titled “Unlaced.” Stand-out works submitted to local programs that demonstrate exceptional ability are awarded Silver Keys.

Nina Faynshtayn received an honorable mention for her poem titled “Defining Time.” Accomplished works submitted to local programs showing great skill and/or potential are given an Honorable Mention Award.
