Sister Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D., Provost for Education, Evangelization and Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Hartford announced that Mrs. Maria Maynard has been appointed as the Interim President of Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford, effective July 1, 2020.
Maynard currently serves as the assistant to the provost for the Archdiocese and previously served as assistant superintendent and then deputy superintendent of Catholic Schools under two superintendents in the archdiocese since July 2007. She comes to NWC with a wealth of prior experience as an elementary and secondary school teacher and administrator with expertise in working with educators, advisory boards, alumni, donors and the many stakeholders that support a Catholic high school.
Maynard will replace Mr. Christian Cashman who has been serving as the President since July 2017 and will step down later this month.
The search for the school’s new president is being conducted by Partners in Mission School Leadership Search Solutions. Based in Westwood, MA, Partners in Mission is a national consulting firm devoted exclusively to developing excellence in advancement and leadership within Catholic schools.
While there was an extensive search this winter and spring for Cashman’s replacement, the Board of Directors has determined that it is best to temporarily suspend the process at this time and to name an interim president who can transition with Cashman and prepare for what promises be a very different opening of the next academic year. Partners in Mission will continue to work with the Archdiocese and will resume the national search this fall.
The position of president at Northwest Catholic, an Archdiocesan high school, reports to the Archbishop and the Board of Directors through the Provost and Superintendent. Maynard, as a member of the leadership team in the Archdiocesan Office of Education, Evangelization and Catechesis, is uniquely qualified to serve at this time, having years of both practical experience in school leadership as well as extensive knowledge of Archdiocesan procedures and policies. As interim president, she will collaborate with an administrative team including Mr. Christopher Stuck, academic dean, and Ms. Jennifer Montoney, dean of Student Life and Formation.
