Kate Farrar is again the endorsed Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 20th District following Wednesday night’s unanimous support by local party delegates. The legislative district encompasses the southern portion of West Hartford and the western side of Newington.

“I am proud to be a Democrat and run for re-election as a champion for our community,” said Farrar. “I will continue to bring people together and deliver real results for the 20th District.”

Now in her second term in office, Farrar serves in two leadership positions in the General Assembly – as Vice Chair of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee and as a Deputy Majority Leader. She worked to deliver the state’s largest tax cuts for working and middle class families and seniors, protect and expand health care access, and build greater equity in education and the workforce. This year Rep. Farrar spearheaded a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers to unanimously pass a comprehensive bill to make childcare more affordable and accessible.

In recognition of her work, Farrar received a Children’s Champion Award in 2023 for her tireless support of early care and education, and earlier this year the Myra M. Oliver Memorial Award from the Connecticut Immigrant & Refugee Coalition.

She was also instrumental in securing millions in investment for West Hartford, including $1 million in funding for the town’s new Vision Zero Plan implementation, a $2.5 million grant for the town’s purchase of the former St. Brigid School as a site for a new Elmwood Community Center, as well as funding for the West Hartford Art League, West Hartford PRIDE and the Bridge Family Center.

“Rep. Kate Farrar has worked tirelessly for the voters of West Hartford and Newington and has demonstrated her commitment to improving the welfare of all of her constituents,” shared West Hartford Democratic Town Committee Chair John Bailey. “We are proud of her accomplishments and look forward to working to ensure her victory in November.”

Farrar shared, “I look forward to continuing to listen to residents across the 20th District to collaborate on new solutions for our community and our state. We need to make Connecticut more affordable, invest in more housing options and child care, and design healthier communities for us to live, work and thrive. And with so much uncertainty at the national level, we need to make certain Connecticut protects our hard-fought rights and freedoms.”

Farrar grew up in Connecticut and is a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut – Storrs. She is a long-time non-profit advocate for women and girls, including expanding STEM opportunities for girls and leading the passage of Connecticut’s landmark paid family medical leave program. She currently works as a Strategy Coordinator at Connecticut Foodshare. Farrar is also an active volunteer in West Hartford as a Board Member of the Aurora Foundation for Women and Girls and is also Board President of the Betty Knox Foundation. She lives on Ridgewood Road with her husband, Chan, and their dog, Lizzie.
