Two new head coaches will join the Kingswood Oxford Athletics Department in 2015-16.
Kathryn Malcolm, the new varsity head softball coach, comes to KO with four years of experience as a Div. 1 athlete and coach of premier travel softball teams. A graduate of Mercy High School in Middletown, CT, where she was a softball and track standout, she won a full four-year scholarship to play softball at Central CT State University.
During her tenure, the Blue Devils won the Northeast Conference Championship twice, including this past May, when Coach Malcolm – a centerfielder – was named tournament MVP. Over her four years as a starter, she also won numerous other NEC awards. She graduated cum laude with a degree in criminology/criminal justice.
For the past two years, Coach Malcolm has served as an assistant coach and head coach, respectively, of the TCS and Outlaws travel softball teams that compete in ASA, PONY, and USSSA tournaments and college showcases. In addition to teaching hitting, fielding, and other fundamental skills, she has helped players reach out and gain exposure to all levels of college coaches.
Mark McCaleb, the newly appointed varsity head girls’ basketball coach, has 15 years of experience as a collegiate women’s basketball coach, most recently at the N.J. Institute of Technology, where he has been an assistant coach since 2012.
Previously, he was an assistant coach at Springfield College, the University of Delaware, and Northeastern University, and a Head Coach at the University of Bridgeport and Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.
Coach McCaleb, a Cromwell resident, earned a bachelor’s degree from UMass/Amherst and a Master’s of Education in Athletic Administration from Springfield College. He has also worked as a high school phys ed teacher, a nutrition director, and a strength and conditioning coach.
Both coaches were recruited by former Athletic Director Susan Cabot before she left KO in June to become AD at the Madeira School in McLean, VA. The announcement of their hires closely follows the announcement of Debra Baer Fiske as KO’s new athletic director.
