Kingswood Oxford’s Varsity Football team has earned a bid to play in its first-ever NEPSAC Bowl game, after finishing the regular season with a 6-1 record and a share of the Fairchester Athletic Association title.

The Wyverns will play Hyde School (Woodstock, CT) in the Mike Atkins New England Championship Bowl on Sat., Nov. 15, 2014. The game will begin at noon on KO’s Hoffman Field and will also be [http://www.highschoolcube.com/event/mike-atkins-bowl-game-hyde-school-woodstock-vs-kin-387479] live-streamed.

“I am so proud of our young men and our coaches this season,” said Athletic Director Sue Cabot. “They met team goals and did so with commitment and hardwork, while maintaining the highest ideals of sportsmanship.”

“These young men (on the football team) are extraordinary – they are not just extraordinary football players, they are extraordinary people,” said Head Coach Jason Martinez. “When we play this game on Saturday, we are not playing this game merely for ourselves, we are playing this game for the entire Wyvern community. We are playing this game for all the players who walked the halls before us. We are playing this game for our family and friends. We are playing this game  or each other. One Team, One Heartbeat!”

The Wyverns learned of the Bowl bid the day after beating Rye Country Day, 28-27, in a hard-fought game on Nov. 8. Running back Koby Quansah ’16 rushed for 204 yards on 21 carries, including a 60-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Jacob Hallenbeck ’16 passed for 156 yards and ran for two touchdowns. The score went back and forth throughout the game until running back Isaiah Wright ’16 ran in for a touchdown from seven yards out with four minutes to play. He also had five catches for 136 yards.

KO shares the FAA title this year with St. Luke’s and King. [http://www.kingswoodoxford.org/cf_news/view.cfm?newsid=502] It is the second championship in a row for KO.
