The St. Peter Claver Knights of Columbus, Council 10817, have donated $1,600 to “The Town That Cares” raised from their annual BBQ dinner.

Joe Whittel, “The Pit Master” for the BBQ dinner said, “Once again we had a tremendous response from the community in support of The Town that Cares food bank fund raiser.” Whittel has been a member of several competitive BBQ Teams and provided an outstanding dinner for all. Over the years the Knights have raised over $10,000 in support of The Town That Cares fund.

Suzanne Oslander, Community Partnerships Manager for The Town That Cares, said, “The community response during the holiday season for The Town That Cares is always amazing. To say West Hartford is truly a town that cares is an understatement because of the support we experience throughout the year. Once again we are very appreciative of the effort and dedication shown by the St. Peter Claver Knights of Columbus.”

Father Bob Kwiatkowski, pastor of the Church of St. Peter Claver, said, “Throughout the year our Parish responds to the continuing need for food, especially at this time of the year. With the assistance of the The Town That Cares and other organizations in this and surrounding communities, our parish will be providing food baskets, with gift cards to purchase turkeys and other perishable items, to over 200 families during this Christmas season of celebration and giving.”

The Knights of Columbus was founded as a fraternal benefit society at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven in 1882. The organization counts more than 1.8 million members worldwide and last year Knights donated more than $167 million and 70 million hours to charitable causes. St. Peter Claver Council 10817 has been chartered since the early 1990s, and supports many charitable and service projects for the church and community in addition to their support of The Town That Cares Fund.
