The Create for Change contest, which is open to all Bristol, Farmington, and West Hartford public high school students and 2018 graduates, challenges students to explore how POWER influences their lives today and how it inspires them to create change for the future. Teens can submit their responses in essay, art, video, photo, or music form for the chance to win a $500 cash prize.

The contest was developed by local communications agency, Journey Communications, in an effort to give young people a chance to speak their minds using the medium of their choice. Journey Communications founder, Chelsea O’Donnell, launched the two-year-old competition to give young people the opportunity to express themselves outside the classroom for a chance to win money that can be put towards their back-to-school needs.

“Create for Change lets our young people speak their minds and gives them a platform to inspire our community while competing for the chance to win some money to put towards their education, passion, or career,” sais O’Donnell. “Young people are the future leaders of our towns and cities and understanding the way that they see the world can give us an opportunity to make smarter, better decisions for both our futures and theirs.”

The Create for Change contest is now live and the students have from July 15 to July 31, 2018, to submit their entry. All submissions will be reviewed and judged based on the extent to which the entrant is able to articulate a thought-provoking answer to the entry question, the extent to which the entry includes an original, creative or inspiring idea, and the overall impression of the entry. The winner will be announced on Aug. 25, 2018.
