As parents, few things are harder than watching your child struggle in school and feeling unsure how to help. West Hartford-based K & M Literacy, LLC, founded by literacy and learning experts Kate Roberts and Maggie Beattie Roberts, now offers a new service just for parents and caregivers: Neurodivergence Coaching and Support Services.
With over 20 years of experience in literacy and teaching, with a specialized focus on children with learning differences, their mission is to empower parents to understand, support, and advocate for their children’s unique learning needs.
“Our goal is to ease some of that stress parents feel when they know their child needs something more, but aren’t sure what steps to take or where to turn,” says Maggie, who holds a Master’s in Literacy Education and has specialized training in neurodiversity and learning differences from Landmark College. “This is about more than academics – it’s about helping your child feel understood, capable, and celebrated.”
Through K & M Literacy’s Neurodivergence Coaching, parents gain tools and guidance to better support children with ADHD, Autism, dysgraphia, and other learning differences. Maggie’s approach is warm, practical, and rooted in research, helping parents find the right ways to help their children thrive at school and at home.
New Neurodivergence Coaching services for parents and caregivers include:
- One-on-One Coaching Sessions: Personalized coaching (available both virtually and in-person) where Maggie works closely with parents to understand their child’s specific challenges, offering tailored strategies in areas like literacy, organization, and focus.
- Virtual Support Groups: A safe and welcoming space where parents can connect with others who understand what they’re going through, ask questions, and share insights on helping their children.
- Workshops and Talks: Maggie also offers workshops, both in-person and virtual, that dive deeper into topics like ADHD, Autism, and executive functioning, sharing real-world tips and strategies parents can use right away.
- Downloadable Resources: As writers and creators, Kate and Maggie offer a growing library of articles, playbooks, and video content to help parents and caregivers on this journey.
In addition to helping parents make sense of IEPs, 504 plans, cognitive evaluations, and school intervention support, Maggie offers guidance that goes beyond the school walls. Parents leave these sessions feeling empowered to help their child with practical tools, specific questions to ask at school, and ways to bring out their child’s strengths.
“As parents of neurodivergent children, we know the worry parents feel about their child’s future and their struggle to feel understood in school,” Maggie shares. “I want parents to know there is support here for them, too. Whether they are new to navigating their child’s IEP, looking for ways to strengthen their home/school connection, or have a hunch their child might need more support, I’m here to help.”
