An 18-year-old man was arrested by West Hartford Police Saturday night after an incident involving a knife-involved fight in the alleyway between Bartaco and Barcelona off Farmington Avenue in West Hartford Center.

Capt. Michael Perruccio said Wednesday that all available units were dispatched at 10:14 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 following the report of a fight where a man had pulled a knife.

The manager at Bartaco called police after a security guard from his restaurant witnessed the tail end of an argument in the adjacent alley that developed into a fight, Perruccio said.

Officers arrived on the scene quickly, and one man fled on foot. Police gave chase, Perruccio said, and were able to apprehend and detain Abdelrahman Dafr Alsalman, 18, of West Road in Ellington, around the corner on LaSalle Road.

Witnesses who were standing outside Bartaco told police that an argument had taken place and a man, identified as Alsalman, had pulled out a knife and “threatened to stick” the man he was angry with, Perruccio said.

Police seized the knife and it has been placed into evidence.

Alsalman was charged with one count of carrying a dangerous weapon, one count of interfering with a police officer, and one count of breach of peace.

He was released on $5,000 non-surety bond and is due to appear in court on June 7.
