Mandell JCC in West Hartford Will Welcome Jewish New Year with Family-Friendly Events

A variety of family-friendly Tishrei holiday events are planned for the Mandell JCC and PJ Library in West Hartford and other area locations this fall.

The Mandell JCC and the PJ Library will bring in the Jewish New Year 5778 with events for the whole family, PJ Library stories, tastings, and hands-on activities to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Sukkot at various locations and at the Mandell JCC, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT.
The High Holiday festivities at the Mandell JCC begin on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, with BZZZ – Bee Happy! at 3 p.m., where families will join Beekeeper Kevin to learn about the process of making honey. On Thursday, Sept. 14 at 12:40 p.m. at Kol Haverim in Glastonbury and Friday, Sept. 15, at 12:40 p.m. at the Mandell JCC, there will be a special Challah Making for Rosh Hashanah event where families have the opportunity to create and braid their own traditional challah bread.
On Sunday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m., families can celebrate the New Year together at PJ Library In the Park at either Eisenhower Park, West Hartford, Addison Park, Glastonbury or Iron Horse Park in Simsbury. Friday, Sept. 15, celebrate a sweet new year at the Mandell JCC with an Apple, Honey & Challah Tasting from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5:00 p.m. at the Mandell JCC.
Fall family fun continues with a special “Teddy Bear Hunt” on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at Penwood Park in Bloomfield, as children search for PJ Bear, and enjoy PJ Library stories and snacks before exploring the trail.
Families can celebrate the holiday of Sukkot (Festival of Booths) by making an edible sukkah, decorating the Sukkah and listening to PJ Library stories at two Sukkah locations on Tuesday, Oct. 3, beginning with the Mandell JCC’s Sukkah from 12:45-1:45 p.m., and again from 4-5 p.m., or the Mandell JCC Valley Sports & Community Center Sukkah from 4-5:30 p.m.
