Why are you running for office? I am seeking re-election to the West Hartford Town Council for several reasons. First, I want to be part of a team that will continue to lead our community. Second, there is more work to be done to address the issues of racial equity and social justice in our community, and I believe that I can bring a reasoned voice to the discussion. And lastly, I truly enjoy serving on the Town Council and providing “community service” to our Town.
What issue(s) are your primary area of focus? (a) Maintaining the town’s AAA top-rated financial condition based on sound budgeting, strong investment in services and schools, responsible taxes and adequately funding employee retirement obligations; (b) smart growth that keeps building our tax base, creates jobs and does more to offer affordable housing choices; and (c) funding educational opportunity to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population in high performing public schools that make West Hartford nationally rated as one of the best places for families to live in America.
What do you feel is the biggest issue facing West Hartford today, and how do you plan to address it if elected? West Hartford needs strong, steady, experienced leadership to address the issues that will arise as we deal with the social and economic impacts of the pandemic. By being prepared, listening and actively participating in Council discussions, I will be able to advocate for reasonable solutions.
What do you feel differentiates you from other candidates also running for this position? I commend all those who are seeking to serve on the Town Council this election cycle. Each member of the Council brings a different skill set to the Town Council, which helps bring balance. My extensive knowledge of zoning law and regulations, specifically West Hartford zoning, sets me apart from my colleagues.
Anything else you would like to share? I want to thank your publication for allowing me to provide more information about my candidacy. If any voter would like more information, please contact me at [email protected].
