Celebrating their 90th anniversary, the Morley Elementary School Planning Committee announced initial plans for a celebration in May 2018. With its first full school year in 1927-1928, Morley has been a beloved West Hartford school welcoming local families into its strong community for generations.
Originally named Fern St. School, Morley was a cutting-edge school at the time of its construction. Changed to Edward W. Morley School in February of 1930, the school honored local West Hartford scientist Edward Morley, whose accomplishments include discovering the atomic weight of Oxygen and contributing to Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity.
Principal Ryan Cleary stated, “We are most proud that the school’s history and identity as a close-knit community is still the sentiment of staff, students, and family to this day.”
In May 2018, Morley will host an event to celebrate 90 years of quality teaching, learning, and community. Made up of school administration, teachers, parents, alumni, and students, the Morley Planning Committee looks forward to highlighting the many alumni still living locally, including second and third generation Morley families.
All Morley alumni and families are invited to the school this spring to share in this exciting recognition of history, tradition, and community.
More details will be announced in the early spring.
