The third annual Spirits in the House, the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society’s fantastical fall fundraiser, will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, from 7 to 10 p.m. Whimsy and imagination will transform the museum into a magical jazz club, full of spirited activities, including magic and fortune-telling, entertainment, food, and special cocktails.

Tickets are $40 per person ($35 for museum members). Tickets include one complimentary drink and are available at www.noahwebsterhouse.org or by calling 860-521-5362 x10. Reservations are required.

Headlining the event is recording artist Angela Luna, who along with jazz great David Palla and the Moondrops, will perform jazz from the Great American Songbook and Cotton Club era.

“The museum is so fortunate to host an artist of Angela Luna’s caliber,” said Executive Director Jennifer DiCola Matos.  Angela Luna has travelled the world singing and experiencing music with all walks of life. She is currently a member of the hip-hop(e) act Klokwize, whose music can be heard on ESPN’s “First Take.” Luna also works with the Judy Dworin Performance Project and women of the York Correctional Institute.

A variety of refreshments will be generously provided from favorite food establishments in the community. There will also be a Hotel California tequila tasting and cash bar by Maximum Beverage.  “Many restaurants and businesses have made generous donations to ensure a successful and spirited evening. Our committee and staff have been working to create a unique and exciting event,” stated Linda Barron Geisler, Trustee and Chair of this year’s event.

Diane Pflugrad Foley, the museum’s Board Chair added, “We love how Spirits in the House has evolved into an enchanting evening people really enjoy. And of course those who attend are supporting our many programs for adults and children that engage citizens by preserving and sharing history, promoting literacy, and advocating greater cultural understanding.”

Serving as community partners for this event are the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce, West Hartford Garden Club, and West Hartford Newcomers & Neighbors.  Silver and bronze level sponsors include SKY Investment Group LLC, Private Capital Group, and Saslow Lufkin & Buggy, LLP. Refreshments for the event have been donated by area food purveyors including Aby’s Bakery, Cabot Creamery, Effie’s Place, Elmwood Kabob, Harry’s Pizza, La Petite France, Russell’s Creative Global Cuisine, Tallulah’s, Taste of India, Whole Foods Market, and Yosi Kosher Catering. The museum is partially funded through the generous support of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and the Greater Hartford Arts Council.

The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is located in the restored birthplace and childhood home of Noah Webster. Webster was a national figure known not only for the first American dictionary and the Blue-Backed Speller, but also for being a federalist, an abolitionist and a cofounder of Amherst College.
