A milestone moment set the tone for the Conard girls lacrosse team as they beat RHAM 17-1 Thursday.
Junior Nicole Gorman recorded the 100th goal of her lacrosse career for the Red Wolves to open the scoring in the game. “All I remember is everyone being excited,” Gorman recounted after the game. “My teammates set me up for the first goal of the game.”
Gorman was quick to credit those around her for her success. “I could not have done this without my family, without my teammates that push me to be better,” she said. Gorman also praised her head coach Meg Cersosimo for setting an example for her to emulate. “I always wanted to be like her.”
The feeling is mutual as Cersosimo praised Gorman’s ability to stay healthy and contribute. “It is pretty amazing to have a 100-goal scorer,” said the coach. “She’s been starting since her freshman year, but that is only 16 games a season, so it is a testament to her playing every game.”
Gorman has helped lead Conard to a 9-1 record – the only loss coming in the team’s first game of the season. The Red Wolves have scored 10 or more goals in every game this year, except in a 9-9 win over Cheshire. In fact, they have outscored their opponents 125-45, holding opponents to two or fewer goals in six of the victories.
“Nicole is an extremely hard worker on and off the field,” said Cersosimo. “She always wants her teammates to succeed.”
