Five seniors at Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford were named Commended Merit Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Samantha Casciani, Andrew Colliton, and Erin Conway, all from West Hartford, as well as Justin DeFina of Canton and Gabriel Landi of Colebrook were recognized as Commended Students this week.

These esteemed seniors were among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, or PSAT/NMSQT.

Upon learning of their success, NWC President Cashman remarked, “Our community is so proud of these students, who are truly standouts. Samantha, Andrew, Erin, Justin, and Gabe are excellent role models and represent the very best of Northwest Catholic.” Cashman continued, “They exemplify ‘education of the whole person’ – the mission we speak so often at Northwest – and they touch all of our programs, from athletics to robotics to theater and more.”

Northwest Catholic congratulates Samantha Casciani, Andrew Colliton, Erin Conway, Justin DeFina and Gabriel Landi, as well as all the Commended Students across Connecticut.
